Discover the magic of climbing in the Atlas

Todra: the birthplace of climbing in North Africa

Known as Morocco’s Mecca of climbing, Todra Gorge has attracted climbers from around the world, especially since its rise to fame in the 1980s. The region's red limestone provides the perfect conditions for rock climbing, and its sunny, dry climate makes it an ideal year-round destination. The gorge's striking beauty, with its towering cliffs and narrow passageways, also makes it a fantastic place for photography and outdoor exploration.

Trip Tips

Some extra gear to bring

Some extra gear to bring

When preparing for your climbing trip in Todra Gorge, be sure to bring essentials like sunscreen, a headlamp (for longer multipitch routes), and your climbing gear (harness, shoes, belay device, and rope). If you don't have gear, we'll provide it. The climate can vary, so pack layers, a light jacket, and comfortable shoes for walking. Stay hydrated with 2-3 liters of water and bring snacks for energy. A first aid kit, climbing tape, and a guidebook or app for the area are also recommended. Lastly, respect local customs and carry local currency for small purchases. With these preparations, you'll be ready to fully enjoy the spectacular climbing in Todra Gorge!

Info

A trip to remember. After climbing indoors for a few months I thought I would take the next step and venture to the outdoors with trip away with KooKoo climb. After discussing my needs, wants for the trip and my level of climbing with KooKoo climb I was recommenced to join for a trip to Costa Blanca and it did not disappoint.

Laura Buchanan

Thanks to KooKoo climb for organising an epic trip in Costa Blanca,Spain!! There were so many sport climbing crags to choose from with mixture of leading and seconding as suited, the guides found some in shade even in June the warm months it was possible to climb most of the day.

To get from Marrakech to Tinghir, you have a few transportation options depending on your budget and preference for comfort.

  1. By Car: Driving is the most flexible way to reach Tinghir, allowing you to enjoy the scenic route through the High Atlas Mountains. The journey typically takes about 6 to 7 hours, covering a distance of around 362 km. If you don't have your own car, you can rent one, which will give you the freedom to explore at your own pace.

  2. By Bus: There are buses, such as those from CTM and Supratours, which offer services between Marrakech and Tinghir. This option takes around 8 hours and is a budget-friendly way to travel. The buses are comfortable and equipped with air conditioning.

  3. By Taxi: If you prefer a faster, more direct option, you can take a "grand taxi" (shared taxi), which is quicker than the bus and can be more flexible with your schedule. The ride can be a bit cramped, as it's shared with other passengers, but it’s a good local experience.

Each option offers its own advantages, with driving being the most flexible, while buses and taxis are great for those looking for a more relaxed and economical journey.
